Has the time come to repair or replace your clutch?
The clutch is one of the most important parts of your car and keeping yours in top condition will save you both time and money. While many of us drive around Dublin on a daily basis, never giving a second thought to the role of our clutch, it is in fact one of the key components which gets you from point A to point B. People often wrongly assume it is expensive to get a clutch replacement or have their clutch repaired. However, the longer you ignore or fail to spot these issues, the more costly and troublesome they become. Without a functioning clutch, there are no school runs and no trips to Howth for ice-cream on a Sunday... until you fix the problem. Thankfully, here at Ana Motors our highly experienced team are always on hand to offer advice and assistance when the time comes. However, there are some tell-tale signs which should help you identify when it may be time to visit us sooner rather than later. Spotting these issues early on will save you money in the long run. It may also reduce your risk of being involved in an accident while driving.
Here are some key things to look out for.
Clutch Slipping
This is one of the most common issues we see here at Ana Motors. There are a couple of key things you should look out for when trying to identify a slipping clutch. While driving, if you feel your car needs more RPMs than usual to reach a certain speed, a slipping clutch could be the culprit. Another thing to look out for is your clutch disengaging too quickly or too easily.
Difficulty Changing Gear?
Changing gear should feel smooth and seamless. if you notice any grinding, especially while changing from 1st to 2nd, this could mean your clutch needs attention. While this may seem like an issue with the gearbox, more often than not it is the clutch which is the root cause. Again, the longer you leave this issue unattended, the more costly and harmful it may be long term.
Whats that Burning Smell?
While there are many possible causes for this, such as damaged wiring or problems with your air conditioning, it is often your clutch which is the culprit. That burning smell you notice is produced by the friction caused by your clutch slipping. So if you notice a smell very similar to burning rubber, this could be an indication that your clutch is overheating and is gradually wearing itself down.
Does your clutch feel 'soft' or 'spongy'?
Paying close attention to how the clutch feels while you're driving is one of the best ways to make sure you identify an issue early on. If you feel like your clutch is starting to feel too easy or light to press, it's probably time for a professional inspection.
What's that rattling sound?
There are countless reasons as to why your car may start to make a rattling sound, and yep, you guessed it, your clutch could be it. It can be difficult to pin down exactly where the noise is coming from and we don't recommend doing this while driving. Instead, give us a call on +35318470047 and we can take it from there.
